A bientôt
Antoine
After a tour in Macapá, I took a boat to Santarem, a not so big city upstream of Macapa. Time announced: 36 hours, time real: 48 hours. But the boat broke its propeller along the way so of course ...
Once in Santarem, I quickly realized that I had not much to do there, so I went to Alter Do Chao. A slightly alternative resort in the middle of the forest. This is a very small town (or large village, depend of point of view) which passes the Rio Tapajos, peculiarity of this river water is very clear, unlike most rivers of the Amazon that are rather muddy . Indeed, the source of the Rio Tapajos is located in an area where the soil is stable enough and so the river does not carry mud. Therefore in this town on the river beaches are sandy and rather pleasant! Nice yes but only in the dry season because of the rain season (that is to say right now), they are flooded. The river level rises and usually 9m; 12m this year. As you might expect, so I did not take advantage of the beaches. Still, I visited a few nearby (by boat of course) and enjoyed the city.
After two days, I took the boat, this time towards Belem.
A boat a little bigger, it was a little less crowded. This time, children (living on the edge of the river) dealt with their canoe, and climbed on the boat to sell sweets or trinkets! No scared kids!
I just arrived in Belem, I'll stay a few days to go around and make up my mind for the future! Even though I'll not going far because my parents arrive in Sao Luis on May 8 for three weeks of travel together!
See you soon
